Who Are you?
I was working with a client yesterday and coaching a couple of their Sales people in the effective use of social media. It was great fun but it struck me how difficult it is to keep our various persona on the internet consistent.
So many of us have accounts across the range of social media and we want to keep them separate. Others try to broadcast the same message across the media and it ends up just getting repetitive.
I understand why, I think, but it becomes too hard to protect private entities from personal ones doesn’t it?
So I ask, “Who are you (on the Internet)?” Does the business you are trying to promote conflict with another persona on another medium? Aren’t you afraid you will be found out if there is dissonance? I believe you should concerned because this conflict affects your credibility and without credibility we have nothing.
If you want to check if your media is working effectively for you and in the way that you want, why not start by looking at how others see you. Go ‘Incognito’ in your browser and search for yourself or your company. See what comes up. It may surprise you but at least it will give you a useful insight into how the Internet sees you. You can then take corrective action if you need.
